Prophecy and Promise
Year 3

In this topic, we looked at the four parts of mass and what it means for us as Catholics.
The children drew pictures of:
- The Bible because the priest reads it in the Liturgy of The Word, which tells us about Jesus.
It is the inspired word of God.
- Fire because it represents the Holy Spirit.
- A priest because the priest is blessed by God and he blesses other people in the church.
- An altar because this is the special table where the priest blesses the bread and wine and turns it into the body and blood of Christ.
- Jesus because He represents love and we listen to His teachings in the Bible.
- Candles as Jesus is the Light of the World.
Year 4
In the topic Prophecy and Promise, we looked at Matthew 3:1-12 The Preaching of John the Baptist. In this passage, John encouraged people to “Turn away from your sins” because the Kingdom of heaven is near. We learnt that John was the man the prophet Isaiah was talking about when he said, “Someone is shouting in the desert, Prepare a road for the Lord; make a straight path for him to travel!’”
John the Baptist’s message helps us remember that Advent is a season of hope, waiting and readiness.
John prepared the way, Jesus is the way.
We prepare our hearts through prayer, kindness, being charitable and turning back to God. We repent when we think about the kind of person we want to be in front of Jesus, the gift from God.
We thought about what we could do in Advent to make a straight path towards the Lord.

Year 5

In this topic we looked at artistic impressions of O Antiphons. Theses are special short prayers that are sung in the week before Christmas, starting on 17th December. Each one calls Jesus by a different title, like "O Wisdom" or "O Emmanuel." Their purpose is to help us think about who Jesus is and prepare our hearts for His coming at Christmas. We looked at three of them and expressed our opinions about what we saw.

Year 6

In the topic Prophecy and Promise, we looked at the Annunciation. We discussed how Mary’s obedience shows us that following God can takes courage. We can be brave in doing what is right.
Mary shows us what it means to trust God, even when we are unsure or scared. She encourages us to say “Yes” to God in our own lives - through prayer, helping others, and making good choices.
By saying “Yes,” Mary became part of God’s plan to bring Jesus into the world. We too can say ‘Yes’ and help God’s love reach our family, school, and community. Mary’s “Yes” is a call to be generous with our time, talents, and love.
